recently, i marathon'd both ashe's wedding dress and her funeral dress from the intro video in final fantasy 12. <: it was a real learning curve for me and so i took a lot of photos along the way, because i thought it might be useful to those attempting these costumes or similar costumes in the future, so-- here are all the photos!

it took me about 2 months to complete both costumes, working pretty much around the clock. six types of glue were used, over 15 different types of fabrics, 48 sheets of craft foam, etc. etc. ... it just kept eating stuff and wouldn't stop.

these costumes also took best in show at new zealand's christchurch armageddon 2010, and the wedding dress will be entered in the trans-tasman cup in october.

any questions, i'd be happy to answer or help. <:

Question: What kind of paint did you use on the "armor"? and is it the same foam used on the skirt?

first i primer'd everything with gesso, then i painted it with acrylic (otherwise the foam sucks up all the paint and you'd be doing coats forever). and yes, it's the same foam on the skirt. (:

was there any certain type of acrylic you used to make it shiny? or just "shiny acrylic" ?

i varnished them afterwards, which made it shiny. but the acrylic paints i used were all metallics. (:

i knew i wouldn't be able to find real feathers that long, so what i did was get two layers of craft foam and cut them into feather shapes (3 on each side). (: between the two layers of foam i got some bendable wire and then i hotglued the layers together, which makes one feather. this means you can bend the foam into the curved shape of the feathers like ashe has in the opening fmv! then i just primed them and painted them the right colours. i hope this helped you!
